RETURNING TO WORK?
MAYBE NOT TO YOUR OLD JOB

Returning to work at the same company and at the same salary is not necessarily a done deal any more. Women who opt to return to work after taking two or more years off are finding larger companies, in particular, reluctant to rehire them. Their former employer often prefers to hire a younger employee at a lower salary. Smaller companies, however, are welcoming their experience and talent, although they will probably offer her a lower salary. The trade-off many women reentering the workforce are willing, and indeed happy, to make is a finding a more satisfying balance between work and family that they may find in a smaller, less rigid, work environment.
